Appointments and General Practice Information

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 5:30PM.
The last appointment is scheduled for 4:30PM.
For an initial consultation:
  • Call (972) 867-3375 and leave your name, full telephone number, and convenient time for a return phone call.
  • Dr. Koenigsberg will try to return your call the same day.
  • The initial consultation consists of an hour-and-a-half face-to-face diagnostic evaluation.
  • This evaluation is used to determine a clinical diagnosis, causes of the condition, and treatment options.
  • This evaluation time also allows for all questions and concerns to be addressed.

Dr. Koenigsberg's consultation respects your privacy and confidentiality, and provides a nonthreatening environment to begin the treatment process.

  • About half of Dr. Koenigsberg's patients come in once or twice weekly for face-to-face psychotherapy.
  • The other half comes in roughly quarterly for medication follow-up.
  • Many patients in psychotherapy are also on medication treatment.
  • The two treatments work very well in combination.

Many of the common Psychiatric syndromes are genetically, or biologically predispositioned. For these conditions, various medications treat the condition similarly to most other general medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure or allergies. Some of the Anxiety Disorders, (Panic disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and several Clinical Depressions fall into this category.

Other conditions, such as grieving and most intellectual/emotional conflicts respond best to psychotherapy. The intent of the initial consultation is to sort through all of this and come to a rational, informed decision as to what treatment options best suit each individual.

As a Psychiatrist, Dr. Koenigsberg's concern is to help each person determine what the problem is, what are the causes, and what are the reliable, rational treatment options. Sometimes, there are concerns about medication treatments, their side effects, long-term implications, addiction worries, stigma attached to treatments, and so on. Again, it is during the initial consultation when all of these concerns are encouraged to be aired and discussed in a non-judgmental, empathetic atmosphere.

As a general statement, all of the medications used are safe, effective, and beneficial. For more detailed information, click here on PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS AND TREATMENT OPTIONS This link will provide info on medications, Attention Deficit Disorder, Clinical Depression, or the Anxiety Disorders.

In a similar way, the process of psychotherapy helps bring into awareness those issues kept at bay, preventing full expression of an individual's abilities. Most people who begin psychotherapy are relatively successful already, and want to rid themselves of the frustrations of their constricting thoughts and feelings. Psychotherapy is different from counseling; most people seeking therapy usually don't need much advice. They know what to do--they can't do what they know.
